FLOFluid-Dynamic Low-Frequency Optimization
GREAT BASS IS PHYSICAL – IT HAS A CRISPNESS AND SOLIDITY YOU CAN FEEL.
SOGGY, BLOATED BASS IS PHYSICAL, TOO. BLAME THE STANDING WAVES RESONATING IN YOUR ROOM.
The physics of ‘room modes’ dictates that the same bass note that’s oppressively boomy at one seat will be weak, even missing just a few feet away. This notoriously limits the ability of movie and music lovers to solve the problem after the fact with a knob or equalizer, because ‘fixing’ the response at one seat can further degrade it at others.
Acoustic engineers have long promised that Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) would someday allow engineers to model and optimize the low-frequency pressure map with such accuracy that the boom-or-bust effect could be managed fundamentally, during the system layout phase. That day has finally arrived.
